Caring for vulnerable families is orphan prevention.
The global orphan crisis is complex and nuanced. Most "orphans" are more accurately described as vulnerable children, whose family unit is fragile. These children are at risk of becoming orphans due to causes such as poverty, cultural practices, or sickness.
When we look at the orphan crisis from a holistic approach, it includes those directly impacted: the littles, the bigs and the mamas. The cyclical nature of the orphan crisis will be broken only when we prioritize family preservation and paths toward self-sufficiency as a means for orphan prevention.
